ANCIENT MOSAIC (circa 78 a.d.) discovered on wall of early shrine to St. Jude, in villa near the summer resort seaport of Pompeii.

Themes of the mosaic are the ongoing battle of good vs. evil, and man's never-ending pursuit of the lost cause... or more accurately, one specific man's never-ending pursuit of the lost cause.

Depicted are groupings of saints, ancient wise men, and other religious figures praying for a divine victory in the ancient tournament known as the Mercury Pompeii Grand Slam, the prize being an enormous Mercury oar.

Through an ancient arched window, we also see an ancient seafarer ogling an ancient 18-year-old girl in an ancient string bikini, shortly before the ancient mountain Vesuvius landed on their heads.

Mosaics with virtually identical figures have also been unearthed in Garmisch, Germany, as well as several locations in Lithuania, and another smaller one just off Route 27.
